Welcome

In 2017, Hunter College’s Silberman School of Social Work initiated the Community Navigator Program with the assistance of the CUNY Institute for State and Local Governance (ISLG) and the technical assistance providers for the Criminal Justice Investment Initiative (CJII). The program developed a network of Navigators who connect with and guide individuals to ensure that they can access the resources and services needed. This promotes greater use of existing resources in New York City, and improves outcomes for victims of crime, youth and young adults and people leaving incarceration.

Over the course of five years the Navigators have supported 1992 participants in being connected to resources.  In July 2022 with support from the Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, the Community Navigator Program transitioned to the newly formed Community Navigator Institute.  CNI is opportunity for Navigators and organizations across New York City to learn and expand their knowledge on implementing a  peer model.  CNI staff facilitate strength-based workshops with Navigators, Credible Messengers, Community Advocates and more.  Participants will learn about various navigator models, intake assessment tools, holistic case navigation and community engagement methods.

Workshops are in-person and virtual.
